Royal Caribbean 3D advertising
It looks like Royal Caribbean is going to advertise in 3D in England.
They have come up 3D ads to run in movie theaters showing AVATAR in 3D. OK... so I'm a geek for 3D movies. I've already seen Avatar and liked it a lot. As the 3D technology gets better and better, I am sure we will see more of this kind of advertising. For now, only people in the UK will see this ad, but down the road, I'm sure it will become popular here as well. I hope this new incarnation is enough to entertain you, but I really don't want it to catch on. I own a video production company and we have gone from video tape to DVD to HD to Blu Ray, flat screen and wide screen and I don't need another set of new equipment. Want to buy 20 or 30 VTR's or old style TV sets? They make good boat anchors. Have fun with 3D. Harry Cooper |

I think I would have enjoyed that Avatar in 2D. -- Charles |

And of course they hope to make a lot of money convincing us to but new 3D TV's after we just upgraded to HD TV's!!! I hope that someday there will be 3D without the glasses since wearing glasses does not seem like the ideal solution but the glasses they are using now have come a long way. I saw Avatar in Real 3D and the glasses were not the red and green glasses. As I understand it they were polarized glasses and both lenses were the same color. Lot better than those old glasses. As I said in the earlier post the 3D was somewhat diverting in this movie for me. I was looking at the effects rather the usual immersion in the movie. The trailer for the 3D Shrek looked a lot cooler to me. -- Charles |

The trailer for the 3D Shrek looked a lot cooler to me. When I was a student at the University of South Carolina, Dr. Porter McLaren had been working on a 3-D television prototype. This was back in 1979. With his prototype, the cameras were binocular, and used the blanking period to produce a 3-D image on normal big old fashioned TV sets. The only drawback was that the picture tended to hop up and down a little. Too bad he passed away. With todays technology and digital imaging a computer chip in a binocular camera could have stabilized the picture and new 3-D televisions would not be required. And with folks just now having adopted HD I don't think 3D is likely to catch on any time soon. And, realisticly, how much of what we see as "HD" really is? Watch HG-TV HD. HD and 3D aren't necessary related, and I already have 3D in my Home theater. |
