It is great news if that actually is going to happen, but there are
several important questions that the article don't take into account. Arguably EU/Schengens main concern is unwnated immigration. In a democratorship like Russia there are lots of people that are harrased, hunted and imprisoned as a result of for instance political opposition or becuase they deny to fight in the Chechenya war. Will the EU really open up for that those they can seek shelter in the EU? Russia as the country in power of the CIS is important for Russian foreign policy. Are Russia really interested to go from being the guys in power in the CIS to do as their told in the EU. And what will such a step mean for the common borders in the CIS? Jan |
