Looking at the US maps (im in the UK) it looks like theres a ferry goes from
Montauk, Long Island over to New London, CT, doesnt anyone know what the
shedule is and if its still running the last week in Sept ? Does it takes
cars? and how much is it?

Have tried looking online but without much success

I've seen the ferry in New London and it does take cars. It probably
will be running in Sept., but maybe on a limited schedule.

The car ferry from New London to Long Island has its southern terminal
at Orient Point, not Montauk. It does run year round and is operated by
Cross Sound Ferries which you can probably find through Google. While
Orient Point isn't much more than ten mles from Montauk, it will take
about an hour and a half to get there from Montauk.

You must drive west to East Hampton then north to Sag Harbor to take the
South Ferry to Shelter Island. Once on Shelter Island, drive north to
the, yup, North Ferry that will take you to Greenport. From there you
drive east to Orient Point. The two Shelter Island ferries run at about
ten minute intervals and each covers less than a half mile. They cost
about eight dollars each per car.

Nice subject for confusion. I find on the web that there is a seasonal
ferry (Viking Lines) from New London to Montauk, but that one does not
take cars, as the original poster wanted.

Thanks again for the info guys, that was the ferry i had seen on the map
originally ( from New London to Montauk) and had the word seasonal beside
it. the Orient Point one will work fine though, thanks

Sounds like someones making a **** load of money on the Shelter island
ferries! $8 each way for less than half a mile!

They probably need a subsidy. There is a lot of capital for often light
traffic. The steady staff costs aren't light either.

The Cross Sound Ferry to Orient Point runs all year. The ferry to Montauk
is passenger only. https://www.longislandferry.com/Default.asp

There is currently a fuel surcharge in effect. Ths cost for car and driver
one-way is $42, and adult passengers one-way is $12 ($6 for children). That
end of Long Island is sparsely populated and lightly traveled, at least
off-season, so the drive around to Montauk shouldn't take you very long.
