A place to overnight in Las Vegas?
Recent search of downtown deals
Golden Gate $38* Plaza Hotel $37* Four Queens $39* On strp deals Casino Royale $46* Hawthorn Suites $68* Imperial Palace $42* Emerald Suites $46* Monte Carlo $80* Just use as a guide as you research your options. David http://www.vegas24hrs.com Home of the $99 Vegas Travel Deal Fiance wrote: Could you recommend a modest place to spend a night in Las Vegas? The only requirements that me and my fiancee/wife will have are tidiness, no noise and convenient free parking. What is the cheapest motel in Las Vegas that you know satisfies the requirements? There are so many options to book that even tripadvisor.com didn't help much. So far we are looking into BestWestern motels because we will (perhaps naively try to get discounts there with our www.isic.org cards. But we would go elsewhere if it's cheap, tidy, quiet and free parking - we really need only to have a short rest and move on. |

A place to overnight in Las Vegas?

And it's 9 hours from San Francisco, which is plenty of driving for a day.... Depends on your specific route. If you're coming in via I-15 and Baker, CA, stay in Primm or Jean (45 minutes and 25 minutes southwest of Las Vegas). If coming in via Pahrump, NV, the Silverton hotel/casino might be a good alternative. If coming in via U.S. 95, you might as well just go on to Mesquite (assuming a distaste for Las Vegas). All of this is no help to the OP, who is probably flying into Vegas. |

We are thinking of Best Western Parkview Inn at 921 Las Vegas Boulevard (we are staying in BW's mostly in Utah too) at $50. It's only 0.77km from City Center. Wouldn't the walk be dangerous? What kind of borough is that? We are looking into downtown hotels too. What are the benefits of overnighting at the Strip hotels (amidst all the sight-seeing if I understand it correctly)? I see they may be cheap ($40-50) but what about noise? And, most importantly, will there be free parking near such Strip hotels? |

They want your gambling money, not your parking money. Hotel rooms are usually set back from the main streets and noise shouldn't be a problem. |

A place to overnight in Las Vegas?
In article . com,
Zebra24601 wrote: (assuming a distaste for Las Vegas). Thanks for your comments. To clarify, I have no particular distaste for Las Vegas. It's just that I've been there several times (have seen the sights), and have no interest in gambling, so it isn't a "destination" for me. At least I know I can get a good meal there. It's just not setup for a quick overnight. There's lots of overhead to check into a casino, get up to your room, etc. Staying in those places can be fun, if it's what you want to do, but if you're just on the way somewhere else, it seems like a lot of work. Plus the traffic. |

We are thinking of Best Western Parkview Inn at 921 Las Vegas Boulevard (we are staying in BW's mostly in Utah too) at $50. It's only 0.77km from City Center. Wouldn't the walk be dangerous? What kind of borough is that? I personally would not feel comfortable doing much walking around there. I don't think this is officially North Las Vegas, but the area northeast of the Spaghetti Bowl (I-15 and US95) is definitely not a nice area. Of course, downtown (south of US 95, east of I-15) is pretty rundown, too. But at least there you have foot traffic. We are looking into downtown hotels too. What are the benefits of overnighting at the Strip hotels (amidst all the sight-seeing if I understand it correctly)? Just to make clear, The Strip is NOT downtown. The Strip isn't even within Las Vegas' city limits. Personally, I like Main Street Station downtown. Very convenient parking and quick access to the freeways. But it's not the cheapest. If the Plaza is still open, that place is often pretty cheap. I see they may be cheap ($40-50) but what about noise? Noise from outside should not be a problem. This is particularly true since your room's air conditioner will probably be running pretty much non-stop once you get into your room. So, price-wise, if it's actually on the Strip (which I would consider to be Las Vegas Blvd, between Sahara and Mandalay Bay), $50 would be cheap. If you're actually getting a price for a downtown hotel, that's only an okay price (for a weeknight--it would be pretty good for a weekend). However, you could probably get something cheaper if you stayed in either Mesquite, Jean, or Primm (all of which have been noted in other posts to this thread). The plus for all those places are quicker access back to I-15 than almost any Las Vegas-area hotel. The minus is that the gasoline would be a lot more expensive at any of those places. And, most importantly, will there be free parking near such Strip hotels? Free parking should not be an issue, unless you valet park. Then, it's just what ever you decide to tip the valet. Just remember that some of those parking lots are HUGE. Make sure you remember where you parked. |

thank you, Zebra,
we will stay right on the Strip - at Casino Royale. One night only, some walking and then back to Utah. |

There's plenty of ways to do Vegas as an overnight stop -- We stayed at a convenient LaQuinta near the airport, just a couple of blocks West of the strip -- indoor pool & hot breakfast. On the strip, I found the Flamingo is efficient at check-in. There's a a convenient garage in the back and zippy-elevators. Besides, what's wrong with taking a few minutes driving the strip for some free sightseeing? =R= |

[casino hotel] check-in should take no more than a few minutes
But a lot of those hotels are HUGE and it can be a long way from your car to your room. In many cases the layout forces you to walk through crowds of people, ride an elevator up to the 20th floor or whatever, and then walk down a long, long corridor to reach your room. When I stayed at the Paris last year (which I loved), it was literally a 10-minute walk from the front door to my room. If you're not interested in gambling, it can be a lot more convenient to stay at a conventional motel where your room is only short walk from your car. Jim |
