I reckon that about covers it. BTW, "wreckless" has been around for
many years, dictionaries or no.

Huh? Give an example, please.

I'll second that. The dodos who have been defending "wreckless" are
ignorant. It is not now, and never has been, a legitimate word or one that
is commonly used. Moreover, their meaning of it, if indeed it were a
legitimate word, is directly opposite to the meaning it would logically
have.

These people want to claim the right to be ignorant and illiterate, and
have everyone else excuse and understand them anyway. Doesn't work that
way.

Uh, this is a Usenet travel group, not a lexicography lecture or a
dictionary class. Everyone but, you knew what the person was communicating
and that's all that counts. What is more immature than a spelling troll? A
punctuation troll? If these things upset your stomach, maybe it's the
punct-u-ate. ;-) KM

Gee! What a revelation.

My point is that people should be CAREFUL when they write, even on the
Internet, and not afflict all & sundry with stupid mistakes that cloud
or sometimes totally obscure their apparent intended meaning. Anyone
with ANY command of English has this obligation. People who are trying
to make their way in English without really any clue about it can
usually be spotted right away, and given some slack. But those aren't,
in general, the people who leave these stupid illiterate posts.

And no matter how much you fulminate, "wreckless" is NOT a legitimate
word. Think about it, if you can. If it had a meaning, that would be
"without wrecks" which is pretty much the direct opposite of
"reckless", or at least points in a very slaunchwise direction.

Being an antonym doesn't make it a non-word. And as I pointed out
elsewhere, "wreckless" appears in the Oxford English dictionary.
Now if I have to choose you as an authority or the OED, guess who
wins.

*Sigh!* No, you aren't going to be able to get people who post in this
Usenet newsgroup to live up to the standards you set for them, so you might
as well give it up. You come off as someone who is grossly overweight and
wants to throw her weight around. Instead of ordering people around on the
Usenet, just eat a couple extra desserts. KM

I really don't give a **** what you, or anyone else, thinks of my
standards. They ARE my standards, and anyone who ever went to school
should have standards not far short of them. If you or anyone else
doesn't like it, go perform an impossible act.

An impossible act like having an intelligent conversation with you?

LOL! Well, obviously you DO care or it wouldn't occur to you to claim you
don't. People who don't care, don't respond BECAUSE THEY DON'T CARE!
People who do care, do respond, only if it's to lie and claim they don't
care! Thanks for confirming our suspicions. Now go have those extra
desserts and see if they calm you down. KM

No, a more impossible act, like agreeing with her rants! KM
