Default A Journey into the Golden Age of Travel

Announcing the launch of "Gare Maritime" a companion site to
Encyclopedia Titanica.

This brand new site looks at ocean liners and travel in general through
new articles, as well as in pictures and through home movies, which are
a wonderful resource for illustrating journeys of the past.

Our launch issue is now up and Jim Kalafus has produced a stunning
article for our first issue:

"The Morro Castle, the Mohawk and the End of the Ward Line"
"It has been almost 72 years since the Morro Castle, gutted, afire, and
carrying the bodies of at least six luckless passengers and crew
members was driven ashore, with visual impact worthy of a Hollywood
production, just to the north of the new Convention Center at Asbury
Park, New Jersey."

As well as being impeccibly researched this article contains some
wonderful photographs, some never before seen, and links to a whole
range of brochures, plans and even a 78rpm record from the period.

Home Movie Corner
This is where we show some wonderful old films of people, places and
journeys. Highlights this issue include:

A 1920s cruise on the Siboney or Orizaba (a companion to the Morro
Castle article)
London's River : An evocative journey down the Thames (contains
nudity!)
Strathallan at Sea : An intriguing film of the ill-fated Orient liner
on her sea trials (1938).
The Queen Mary at Gourock (don't blink, you might miss it!) - 1936.

There are other films and articles too, so we hope very much that you
will visit the site and perhaps, in time, contribute to it.
