central park report 10/17/04
a very chilly and cloudy weekend in new york.
got down to central park about 1pm today walked down from 86 street to 59 street, with stops at Bethesda Terrace, Bowman bridge, the pond, the zoo, etc. i can report that most of the trees are still very green, with mixtures of yellow and lighter green in some places. due to the rain we've had and the windy days some trees are already losing leaves. though we have yet to see the classic riot of color, the park is still beautiful, the pond was particurly lovely, it was emerald green at 3pm when i sat down beside it. a beautiful clear emerald green. there was some kind of event in the park today, saw a line stretching from the 65th street transverse up central drive hundred of people, some kind of tag sale or something. the mall is beautiful. sat by the Shakespeare statue, finally realized the bard of avon is looking down upon a plot of flowers, never noticed this before. always just look up at him, never followed HIS gaze before. i figure something has to give next week. October 24-30. lets hope a big wind or a big rainstorm doesn't wipe out the leaves before then. |
