travel to Little River Canyon AL
Hello,
Has anyone been to this park or to Desoto in NE Alabama? It's situated in Dekalb county AL. How remote is this region? Any overly winding roads to get there? AAA shows the nearest cities being Fort payne, AL. Just wanted to get some feedback from others. Seems like a 3 hour one-way drive out of atlanta, but I wanted to check if the roads were easy to drive, i.e not unnecessarily winding of steep. Unfortunately, AAA triptiks don't show this info. Thanks for any advice! |

You can get pretty close on the interstate if you go west to Birmingham
and then north. Or North to Chattanooga and then south toward Birmingham. I don't know what the last few miles are like though. curious wrote: Hello, Has anyone been to this park or to Desoto in NE Alabama? It's situated in Dekalb county AL. How remote is this region? You have a few miles of mountain roads, but for the most part you have good
roads all the way. It is a beautiful area with a deeeeep canyon, beautiful water falls, and fall colors. The cabins at the state park are a good deal at about $75 per night. Glen |

Thanks for any advice! The last few miles shouldn't bee too windy or steep - an occasional grade here and there, but I don't think there's much to really slow you down. I've spent some time on the other side of I-59, going towards Scottsboro, but never on the Litte River side. Otherwise, I've only stopped in Ft. Payne for food when travelling on 59. The scenery in the region seems nice, but otherwise, I get the impression that the Ft. Payne area has little to offer and is the armpit of the South. Don't expect much beyond fast food and a reasonably clean motel room. |
