I went to the DPRK a few months ago. It's a place which is difficult to
put into words, really much easier to put into pictures. For those who
are interested I've added some pictures to my web-page:
http://heim.ifi.uio.no/~janki/dprk/

Can you publish more of those?
I love them.

Ronald

I will be going away for the next two weeks, but when I return I will add
more pictures.

I didn't even know one could go to North Korea. What is involved in that?

You're not allowed to travel independently in North Korea, but they do
allow certain structured group tours where North Korean guides
accompany you at all times and strictly control where you are and
aren't allowed to go.

"Explore Worldwide" at www.explore.co.uk runs a North Korea tour for
Westerners. Also check "Koryo Tours".

Any countries banned from going?

US or South Korean citizens, journalists, or anyone of Korean descent.

Great pictures!

I was surprised you were able to take that picture at Panmunjom. What
restrictions did you face on taking pictures? And was anyone reluctant
to have their picture taken?

There were no restrictions on taking pictures at Panmunjom. Actually, I found it to be the only place in the DPRK where soldiers did not mind
having their pictures taken. Except stressing that I shouldn't try to jump the border all the North Koreans were quite relaxed inside the DMZ. From
what I've read of the tours from the south side, they're much more tense than the ones from the north. Anyone have any opinions on this?

All the streets look very empty? Did you just wait for the right
moment or was it really like that?

If you're thinking of the distinct lack of cars, well, that's the charm of
going to the DPRK. I didn't wait for the right moment or anything else like
that when taking the pictures. That's how it actually is. The amount of
cars in the DPRK today is probably comparable with that of the developed
world of the 1940's and 50's.

Though difficult to believe when driving in the country, the DPRK actually
produces its own brand of cars. It's actually a cooperation (70% - 30%)
between the Reverend Sun Myung Moon of the Unification Church and the DPRK:
