Default "raw" cruise data, where does it come from?

Can someone point me to the proper area/place to research where the data
comes from? I have been pondering a different style cruise search engine.

Are you referring to reservation info? itineraries, sail dates,
availability?

Most will come from the GDS - Global Distribution Systems, Sabre,
Galileo, etc - which are fed from the cruise lines themselves.

What do you have in mind?

I don't like the style of the search engines that are available now.
They work well if you know what you're looking for, but I think they
leave a lot to be desired.

I wanted to what the data looked like so as to design what I think would
be a better one. It's all about format. The data is essentially the same
everywhere. I just think there is a better way to use it.

Clay, have you tried, www.vacationstogo.com ?
You can enter the destination and dates and it will bring up itineraries of
many ships going to a specific area, such as Alaska, Mediterranean, and
Hawaii, etc.

Hi Jean, I think I've tried them all. Some are better than others, but
there are too many restrictions as to HOW to search. A good example for
restricted choices is that I sometimes want to search multiple ports to
leave from and a cruise length of 7 to 14 days.

Clay, that's just too broad a search. Try settling on one port at a
time.

You are correct if you use the available search engines.
The reason I asked the question is that I was trying to find out how
this data is formatted and distributed so that a better search engine
program can be written. I know how to search for a cruise, I just think
the engines available are cumbersome, and weak.
I believe there is a market for a better tool!

Thanks,
Clay
