Am going to Paris this week, hotel charges for breakfast VERY high.
Where can I get coffee, fruit juice and a croissant at a reasonable
price? Will be staying nr. Luxembourg Gardens. Thank you.

There are corner stands and small stores everywhere that will
sell you some coffee and a croissant. All you need to do is walk
around a bit and choose one.

There are corner stands and small stores everywhere that will
sell you some coffee and a croissant. All you need to do is walk
around a bit and choose one.

Inside the Peripherique it would be difficult to walk more
than 200m without encountering a place that sells baguettes,
croissants etc and coffee won't be far away.

They also seem to cluster close to hotels. Of course, it's
healthier for you to walk further in the morning:-)

Mac Do has effectively a good coffee, juice, croissant formula, that
won't compete with a breakfast buffet in a nice hotel. 3 Mac Do at least
along Boulevard Saint Michel. Many bakeries are open everywhere and some
will have coffee machines. Coffee stands with vienoiseries in major
metro stations. Cafés will charge you more than the hotel for the same
service.

There are lots of cafes and bakeries in that neighborhood. However, If you
order coffee and a croissant in a cafe, you get just one cup of coffee and
one croissant. The hotel breakfast will have more coffee and more baked
goods. We ended up breakfasting there for the more coffee as well as the
convenience.

Was the coffee OK? It's been ages since I've had a hotel breakfast in
France, as we've always chosen the eating out option, but I had some bad
experiences in Parisian hotels in the 90s which put me off...

One particular one, _near_ Luxembourg Gardens, stays in my mind. Ugh.
The bizzare thing was that the hotel also had a cafe, but hotel guests
were confined to an 'annex' where we got awful coffee and dry old
poieces of bread. I'm only exaggerating slightly...

That said, I had similar experiences in Italy wrt coffee, and the two
places we stayed at on Sardinia recently served excellent coffee, as
well as a fine breakfast. Carb heavy, but that's pretty much the way
they do things...
