Default Holiday at Lake Garda

My wife wants to go to Lake Garda this year (August).

Any advice on what town to stay in, hotel recommendations and things to do
while we are there would be gratefully received.

We have a 5 year old son as well so things for him to do would be useful as
well.

TIA

Like of Garda is very big. the biggest lake in Italy actually
Accomodations depend on where you want to stay
some villages offer apartmnets, some others offer only hotels
In any case. it is pricey and in August it will be difficult to find
anything even now

Hmmm... I don't know about your son, but Lake Garda is all about
windsurfing, and it's fantastic in that regard.

Rubbish - I've been to Lake Garda three times, and two of those booked
independently and both times no problem getting good accomodation which was
a lot cheaper then going on a package, which is how it was done the first
time.

Default Holiday at Lake Como

Garda is good if you speak German (;-)

Lake Como is as scenic, more authentic and cheaper
( if you are not a surfer and need the surf spot )

Dates outside July-August are much cheaper if you can avoid

Who did you use to book your accommodation? Any recommendations?

Take a look at Malcesine, on the eastern edge of Lake Garda. It is a pretty
town with a series of hotels and a town center. One hotel in particular,
Val di Sogno, sits directly on the lake's border, with a small, rocky beach.
The hotel is reasonably priced, has a large swimming pool, and might fit
your needs with your 5 year old in tow.

I do not think you will find anything under 100.00 eur night in August..
and I find it expensive for a 3 stars hotel

Having been in Desenzano and Sirmione.. I can recommend Sirmione if you are
looking for apartments
I paid about 400 eur a week for a small apartment
with a bedroom and a big sofa

there are a lot of Germans in Garda.. but not everywhere
Garda is very big and there are places that are too expensive for the normal
tourist
expect to pay also more for restaurants and bars
or normal shops and supermarkets

In any case.. there are lots of webpages in Internet
while in August Germans have finished their holidays and Italians start to
be on holiday

Default Holiday at Lake Como

Lake Como is one of the nicest areas in the world.
The west coast has a busy road running along side the lake, but the east
coast has really only a quiet road ,and a railway.
The nicest place on the lake is the small town of Varenna.
Ferries are really best things for visiting the other towns and villages.
