Default Orlando -Where to book Wedding Dinner

My daughter is getting Married on Thursday January 15th at the Disney
Wedding Pavillion.
We would like to book a dinner for 12 people in the Orlando area for that
evening. (Off Disney)
(When my daughter asked her Travel agent for a restaurant list, they were
all Disney).
Must be somewhere that we can stay for the whole evening, doesn't have to
have entertainment.
We do have 2 very quiet, well behaved children with us ( 8 & 12).
The restaurant must have a varied menu. with both meat and fish dishes; one
person has an egg allergy another a dairy allergy.
Cost is immaterial. This is a special day!! As long as the food and
ambience is good, Would like to book over the internet if poss.
Any ideas?
TIA

Jan

My daughter is getting Married

Congratuations!

one person has an egg allergy another a dairy allergy...

I am extremely dairy intolerant and have sometimes been in
restaurants where there was virtually *nothing* on the menu
that didn't have a little dairy (milk, cheese, butter, etc) in it.
And the problem is often worse in the better restaurants,
as they seem to use more of those ingredients.

Would like to book over the internet if poss.

If the allergy/intolerances are serious -- by which I mean
they must avoid those foods completely rather than simply
minimizing them -- then I wouldn't book a restaurant
over the Internet for a special family occasion like this one;
I'd want to phone the restaurant and talk to the manager
personally about your requirements to see if they have
suitable dishes, or see if the chef could prepare something
special that would meet their requirements.

Good restaurants are often willing to accomodate special
dietary requests if you give them some advanced notice.

James

Hi James
The Egg Allergy is a serious one, however Andy Knows what he can eat and
what he won't even risk eating. iyswim
The Dairy allergy is I believe more of a "fad" rather than an allergy.
The reason behind the internet booking is so the bride can "see" the venue
before booking
Thanks
Jan

I see; okay.

The Dairy allergy is I believe more of a "fad" rather
than an allergy.

Incidentally, there are simple medical tests which can determine
whether a person really has a problem with dairy. Most folks with
dairy problems don't really have an allergy; instead it's an intolerance
caused by a lack of the stomach enzyme that's needed to digest
milk. Typically they didnt' have problems with milk as kids, but
the problem developed as they got older. A doctor who specializes
in stomach problems (gastroenterologist) can do a test in which
they give you milk and then a while later a simple blood test can
determine if your body digested the milk properly.

Anyway, hope you find a good restaurant and have a great time!

Jim

If you don't mind coming into downtown, we've enjoyed Lee's Lakeside on the
south side of Lake Eola for important dinners for decades. It's a family run
place, very elegant, tasty food with a great view. Kids have never been a
problem, as long as they behave. I don't know if they have Internet booking
but if you like I can find out.

Yep, that's them. Their tagline isn't quite right, though - they've recently
opened a less fancy restaurant less than a block away with a similar view,
called the Lake Eola Yacht Club.

Thanks for the suggestion, I do sometimes "read" the Disney NG.
However I felt I might get some better suggestions from here. Especially as
we wanted a non Disney Dinner
I've contacted Lees Lakeside and am waiting a reply
