Cruise Ship Returns To South Fla. After Fire
No Injuries Reported

POSTED: 10:15 pm EST January 18, 2005
UPDATED: 10:26 am EST January 19, 2005

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- What began as a small fire aboard a cruise
ship may have turned into a bigger problem, not only for the passengers
but the ship as well.

The Radisson Seven Seas Navigator was supposed to return to South
Florida on Tuesday morning. But 24 hours later, the passengers were
still on board and many of them could have problems catching flights to
go back home.

The ship was heading back to Fort Lauderdale from the Turks and Caicos
on Monday when a small electrical fire was reported on board, officials
said.

The cruise line said the ship experienced a one-hour blackout after the
fire and passengers were taken to some of the indoor muster stations as
a precaution. No injuries were reported. However, there were delays in
getting back to South Florida and the ship didn't arrive until late
Tuesday night. As a result, many of the passengers were still on board
Wednesday morning.

The next cruise that was supposed to set sail has been canceled. But
cruise line officials said the Seven Seas Navigator will be back in
service for the Jan. 25 cruise.

In the meantime, the Seven Seas Navigator is also one of the ships
slated to go to Jacksonville for the Super Bowl. Cruise officials said
they will have the repairs made from the fire at that time. They also
said they will give refunds or credits to people who were scheduled to
go on the canceled cruise.

Passengers who were stuck on board the ship received free drinks and
phone calls to make their unplanned stay in South Florida a little more
pleasant.

I can see the usefulness of the free phone calls, but aren't drinks
included in the base fare with RSSC?

Hi Mike,

On this RSSC ship, alcoholic drinks at the bar are not included. Wine
is complimentary at dinner on this ship and there are multiple
complimentary cocktail parties. You are given an ample amount of
liquor in your cabin at the beginning of your cruise.

Best regards,
Ray
