trip from mexico city to lake atitlan area

hello,

i am a student from Belgium and planning a journey in guatemala and
mexico from august 13 till the end of october. I m writing a thesis
concerning coffee production. The plan is that I start interviewing in
GUatemala during six weeks and after that go to mexico, where i ll be
investingating some other subjects.

I checked airplane tickets, and it would be appropriate (since i have
to stick below a certain price level) that i would fly round trip to
mexico city.


My problem is, I would like to know if it s safe and organisable to
travel from Mexico city to ST. Lucas di Atitlan (Lake atitlan area )
in Guatemala.

Is there any trouble crossing the border there? Is this managable by
local plane? is it safe enough? etc..
