Prop tax too high ? Here/there or Why don't you just get off your ass and visit the area(s)? |

Anyone with input ? ( and not a realtor yet)

Prop tax too high ? Here/there or Tax on ... Everything ! Traffic is awful here/there etc. I'd want to be NEAR the city / water so suburb would be OK , but not 75 miles inland. Any advice ? pointers/ URL's for comparisons. I tried google - tried a few links and found gov stats but nothing in a side-by side "cost-of living" type chart to make it easy Thanks |

Charleston-Hilton Head is more cosomopolitan, sophisticated and cultured; Savannah more laid-back, quiet and unassuming. Whatever floats your boat. |

I tried google - tried a few links and found gov stats but nothing in a side-by side "cost-of living" type chart to make it easy I did a Google for "cost of living" and numerous sites came up that have that kind of info. Maybe it's not displayed "side by side", but it's there. Also you might want to try the reference desk at your public library; they can point you to numerous authoritative sources of info. |

Had to cut trip short for medical reasons and thought I'd ask locals for any advice in the meantime. |

It is an upscale resort area where everything costs double. Charleston and Savannah are about the same. Rent and Real Estate is through the ceiling in the historic -- tourist section of town. John's Island is near Charleston and a little less expensive living. If you have Lotus 1-2-3 or Excel you can build your own side-by-side comparisons and even set up a "What If Chart". Just read the online help in the application for "How to..." -- ________ To email me, Edit "blog" from my email address. Brian M. Kochera "Some mistakes are too much fun to only make once!" I have a spreadsheet set up for side-by-side comparisons. The first side is my monthly budget as I would like it to be, the other side is what becomes of my monthly budget. sigh |

Had to cut trip short for medical reasons and thought I'd ask locals for any advice in the meantime. Where to live is way too personal a thing to take anybody's word on the livability of an area. For example, if you're in a field where you make $150K/yr, you're requirements are going to be far different than somebody who is only capable of bringing in $25K/yr. There's also a *lot* of other information you didn't bother mentioning. How much square footage do you need? Are you a single person, or a family of ten? Do you care about schools? Polution? Entertainment? Nature? The Ocean? Restaurants? Culture? A redneck/hick is going to score a town rather differently than a NYC snob. |
