Best website or travel agent for American Airlines tix?
Tried Orbitz, but it was actually more expensive than AA's website?
Alternately, any suggestions on NYC to Spokane or Calgary appreciated... |

Of course, there is also the 1000 miles you get if booked at the AA site. |

Most convenient time for me. I tried NW for the flight, but it was also
more expensive. It's (of course) a Christmas time flight (weekend before/after) and that's why the cost is high. I thought about going through Toronto, thinking that the SARS scare would still keep the flight cost low. No such luck. "mrtravel" wrote in message ... I had a similar experience in June - for the same tickets (same flights, same days) on Travelocity, the Continental website was asking considerably more. So I decided it was worthwhile to give up the extra FF miles for booking on CO's site (including an extra 1000 miles for using an AMEX card), and I booked through Travelocity. |

When was the last reported case of SARS picked up a the Toronto airport? (I don't think there have been any) |

I was surprised to get a substantially cheaper fare from Travelocity for an AA flight than AA's own web site. Even with Travelocity's $5 surcharge. While aa.com's search tool is better than most airlines, travelocity.com and even expedia.com (when they had that Fare Calendar) ends up being very helpful. Here's what you do... Go to travelocity.com, click Flights to the right of Home, input your departure & arrival airports in section #2, pick "Search a date Range" in section #3 and select Today through whatever four months from now is (which is the default). Click Search specific airlines in section #5 and put in AA and AS (American Eagle flights automatically turn up even if you don't put in their code and you can earn AAdvantage miles on Alaska Airlines, so I try to search AS when I know I'm going somewhere American doesn't go directly enough such as SEA or OAK). There may be more than one "Select" button for the same fare price so check the rules and see which one looks better to you. (At the cheapest fares, they have about the same restrictions but I try to pick fares that don't require me to stay more than 1 day.) After you select the one you want, pick your departure and arrival dates, select the flights that arrive when you want. After you hit select again, it'll show you your total base price, taxes & fees, total price--that much I'm sure you already know about having purchased trips through this thing before (I'm assuming). What I do then is logon to aa.com, click "More Options" above the red Go button in the Make Reservations box, put my airports, the departure and return dates that came up over at travelocity.com, scroll down to section 4 and select Search By: Schedule and display 20 or 30 Flights. Click Go, then pick the exact same two flights that appeared on travelocity.com - unless the fare somehow changed in the few minutes you do this, it should be the same, minus Travelocity's $5 surcharge, plus 1,000 bonus miles for booking at aa.com and the ability to track your reservations at aa.com, and checking in online to print up your boarding pass(es) at home, now 30 hours before departure so you avoid waiting in lines at the airport. -- Dairenn Lombard Los Angeles, CA - http://www.base-ix.com/~dlombard/ Base-IX Communications, coming 2004 |

Cheapfares? Isn't that the spammer who won't quote prices until after
you pay to join? On Wed, 17 Sep 2003 00:20:30 GMT, mrtravel wrote: So'n'so wrote: Tried Orbitz, but it was actually more expensive than AA's website? Alternately, any suggestions on NYC to Spokane or Calgary appreciated... Did you try cheapfares.com ? Why AA? |
