Ashland/Medford/Grant's Pass Oregon

Hello!

Taking a trip from the SF Bay area north to Seattle in early November.

Normally, we do the drive straight through, but one of us will be in the
third trimester of pregnancy, and we thought we'd take a day (two
nights) in the Ashland/Medford/Grant's Pass area.

Two adults and two kids, 3 and 5 (who actually do great on long car
trips). We'd like to stay at a place we can relax, hopefully catch a
little of the beautiful scenery (we've been through many times). We are
most likely looking at Ashland, but would consider other nearby spots if
folks are persuasive.

I know weather will be unpredictable, but we can handle that.

I'd like to find a place to stay with some charm, some activities, and
that is reasonably priced. Looked through the lodging site on the
Ashland Chamber of Commerce, and looked at a couple of places. Any
suggestions? Any idea if midweek specials are likely to come up later on?

Family activities? Theater is probably out (unless it is a show for
children). Outdoor activities that are likely to be enjoyed in November.
(Any good places to sled that are fairly likely to have snow?).
Museums/galleries that would be enooyable by the general 3-5 year old
(or enough to let the parent's enjoy)?

Also, suggestions on places to eat? So far, through googling this
newsgroup for the past few years, I have:

Ashland is nice, but I've never felt as though I got a decent value
there. Earlier this year, we stayed at the Riverside Inn in Grants
Pass, which has some interesting character, and was a reasonably-priced
place to stay. There is a river walk, a nearby park (with jungle
gym), and a central location. I personally favor brewpubs, and
walked there. Also, Oregon Caves National Park is an excellent
family stop. It was no true "destination," but we (me, wife, 3
kids) enjoyed our stopover there.

Ashland does have a very nice city park, and good food. I can't
really say anything bad about Ashland, although Grants Pass is more
of a budget stop. Skip Medford, for sure.

Not knowing what you consider reasonably priced, I'll mention that
the Stratford Inn is good, and I'm about to stay at the Best Western
Bard's Inn, which some friends of mine have spoken highly about. It's
just a block or so from Lithia Park.

Family activities? Theater is probably out (unless it is a show for
children).

Well, OSF ends their season in October. I don't know whether there
would be any other theater available in early November.

Outdoor activities that are likely to be enjoyed in November.

If it isn't too cold, walking along the creek in Lithia Park is fun.

If it's the place I'm thinking of, I had a nice lunch
there once, on the balcony overlooking the creek.

Yeah, some friends and I had a nice breakfast there once.

There are lots of good restaurants in Ashland. You can find

We've done that (sunrise at Crater Lake is absolutely brethtaking), and
