And what smaller competitor is Charles suggesting that Carnival might be
interested in to snarf up?

In the past there has been talk of their trying to buy RCCL/Celebrity, I
think that may be who Charles was thinking of.

When both were much smaller CCL (and before CCL bought HAL), CCL did
actually try to buy RCL. Today CCL has a market share of about 44%, RCL
has 23%. Apart from NCL the others don't come close. With those numbers
the probability that such an acquisition will be allowed under the
Sherman Act or by overseas cartel authorities is zero.

I wasn't thinking of any particular company when I posted but NCL would
come to mind first. I was putting forth another way they could get more
ships and at the same time eliminate competition. Consolidation, a big
fish eating a smaller fish often happens in the wake of an economic
crisis. I am sure they are looking out for any opportunity but I am not
saying that is going to happen.
