5 or 6 Night Christmas or New Year's Sailing Out of NYC

A colleague of mine at school asked me about winter time sailings out
of NYC this year. When I suggested he might like to come along with
us on the Norwegian Gem for her Christmas cruise, he was interested,
but would prefer a shorter voyage. What other ships are sailing out
of NYC this winter at Christmas or New Year's time? (bearing in mind
that our school holiday runs from December 22 through January 7). Any
and all suggestions are welcome (aside from the usual joke about the
Staten Island Ferry) and I will pass them along to my colleague.

According to travelocity the 7 day NCL Gem cruise is the shortest one
from NY at that time of year.

Thanks, Sue--that's what I thought too! RCI and Carnival still have
ships out of NYC for the holidays, but I think they are running longer
trips!!??!!??

I only saw Royal Carribean, HAL and NCL when I looked on travelocity.
Travelocity usually is pretty good, but you might want to look at the
cruise line websites to be sure.

According to Vacations To Go, when I sort by December and NYC, 7 days is
the shortest and from there they go to 9, 10, 11, 12 and 14 days. Guess
they just have to suck it up and take a whole week off. I can't imagine
wanting a shorter than 7 day cruise. I try always to book 10 or 11 days.

Sounds like they are looking at the economics of a Christmas cruise. That 5
or 6 day cruise will cost almost as much at Christmas as our 10 day cruise
in January.
They really jack up the prices for the Christmas cruises.

My guess is that they don't do shorter cruises from NY/NJ in the winter,
since it takes too long to get to warmer weather. In the warmer weather
they can do Bermuda or New England/Canada for the short cruises.

Sue, I would take a 2 or 3 night to no where out of NYC in the winter
just to enjoy the ships Casino, Spa ect. It would be nice to have the
option to do that. I spend just as much money on a hotel room in NYC
for the weekend as I do on some week long cruises.

I guess your right... Thats probably why they don't have them. I can
keep wishing.

But, I do keep my eye out for those short cruises to no where out of
NYC. Every Saturday this month NCL has a 1 nite to no where. I just
wish it weren't NCL. And it were a 2 nite. 1 Nite is just such a
tease.
