You may be talking about US 81 (the Pan American Highway) which runs from Canada near Fargo, ND and through Waco, TX. The original intent was to connect clear to the tip of SA, and with the exception of the Darien Gap (earlier posts) I think is complete. The last portion of the US portion of the US link to be completed was the Meridian Bridge at Yankton, SD, a few miles from my home. No section of the Pan-American Highway has been officially designated in the U.S. or Canada, though sections have been named locally (like I-25 in Albuquerque and I-35 in San Antonio). From what I can find, the following points on the Mexican-U.S. border are termini of the PAH: Laredo - original terminus via 85 to Mexico City Nogales - via 15 to Mexico City El Paso - via 45 to Mexico City Eagle Pass - possibly via 57 to Mexico City Pharr - via 40 to Monterrey Brownsville - via 101 to Ciudad Victoria Tourism agencies often designate certain routes north of Mexico as the PAH to provide a route for tourists to drive. |
