Default Car rental recommendations for Australia (one month)?

Hi,

I am trying to rent a car for a month from Brisbane Australia. Many
places have a extreme limit on the distance you can travel which goes
up to 250 km from Brisbane. I am going to be there for a month and
would like to see as much of the country as possible so 250 km is way
too limited.

The majors, Avis, Budget, etc,. have a 100 km/day mileage limit.
Thereafter, it's $0.28 / km. Doing the math, you get half an hour of
driving paid for and them it costs roughly $28/hour (at 100 km/hr) to
drive. An all day, 8 hour drive would cost 7.5 hr * $28 / hr = $210
which is ~5 times their daily, 10+ day rate of $45 / day

I would hate to budget $1200 for car rental and have it cost me $5000
when I drop it off. I would rather buy a whole car and sell it when I
leave!

Would anybody have any good recommendations on fair and reputable car
rental companies with reasonable rates and reasonable mileage limits?

Thank you,

Brian

Brian,

That's most unusual. Majors here usually offer unlimited mileage. The
cheapies ($29 a day) sometimes have a mileage fee.

Try an agent, Webjet etc or Eurocar, Budget, Hertz or Avis. Coupla' sites
for you:

$5000 for car rental = $3800 for mielage charges + $1200 rental

$3800 milage = 13,571 lms

Are you really going to drive 13,571 kms in a month? That's a very long way
indeed.

If you are, you are planning too much driving.

I'd suggest you book through an agent such as www.driveaway.com.au - I've
booked cars thru them on a number of occasions in the past for international
travel and on each occasion their rates have been good, cars almost new and
supplied by a major car rental company. No excess kilometres or other
unusual limitations mentioned for Brisbane, and I'm quite surprised that
you claim the majors limit you to 100 km/day and a 250 km radius, that's not
normal for major operators here, usually only applying to smaller operators.

Good advice about booking through an agent. Avis offers two tiered rates:
one with limited kms and radius and the other with unlimited. I'm not sure
about the other major rental companies. An agent would be able to find the
best deal for the particular situation.

Most of all the OZ car rental sites I ve visited show UNLIMITED mileage..
