mafia. An Italian parliamentary committee said this in a report about
the 'Ndrangheta, the mafia in Calabria (photo), in the South of Italy.

According to the report, the 'Ndrangheta is the most powerful mafia
group in Italy at the moment.

The Calabria mafia has contacts all over Europe and the world. The key
to its success is the very strong family bond in which betrayal is
very rare.

Apart from using Belgium as a transit country for drugs the
'Ndrangheta also launders money here, mostly through investments in
real estate.

Our country, together with the Netherlands and Germany, is also an
important place of refuge for the Italian Mafioso's to hide out.

In 2005 and 2005 two fugitives, key members of the Calabria mafia,
were arrested in Belgium.
