I've never taken a helicopter tour so I can't comment
about them, although they do look like fun. There are a
number of bus tours available which leave early morning
and return at night. For example, Gray Line has a
day trip which costs $150 per person. You can download
their brochu
http://www.grayline.com/pdf/lasvegas...e-Brochure.pdf

At your Vegas hotel you'll probably find brochures for
a number of different tour companies.

If you drive, it's roughly a 5 hour drive each way to the
south rim. So if you leave Vegas early, you can spend
most of the afternoon there and return in the evening.
That'll give you time to stop at the Visitor's Center,
visit several of the overlooks, and perhaps hike a short
distance into the Canyon on the Bright Angel Trail to
get a glimpse of the canyon from below the rim.

But I'd strongly recommend spending at least one night
there if you can.

James

Renting a car is not an option. I am asking for my friends coming from out
of the coutry. They can't drive. They have no choice but to join a bus or
air tour.
