LOTR locations
There is a book I saw for sale in NZ that had all of the locations
listed. Price was about NZ$40 from memory Traveller Reservation Heaven "Bob Kouré" wrote in message ... I spent an hour or two in a lakeside spot on the road between Queenstown and Glenorchie. I remember thinking that it was strange that the bit of structure along the lakeside was granite as (AFAIK) there isn't any granite native to NZ. I had assumed the property belonged to some rich git who could afford to import big pieces of granite, but when I saw LOTR/Fellowship, some angles of the scene where Boromir gets killed looked a lot like this spot. I'd been in NZ on extended motorcycle tour (several months) ran into LOTR filming crews in a couple of spots - but this one was right by the road and close to Q'town. Maybe I'm wrong - but if you go the rest of the way down that road you can see some of the places Willow was filmed and it's a *really* good motorcycling road :-) Bob On 21 Aug 2003 00:33:38 -0700, (Switch) wrote: I'm looking for some specific Lord of the Rings locations, because I want to visit the exact locations where the scenes were filmed. On the net I can only find the general indications were the Hobbiton, Lothlorien, Mount Doom, etc were filmed. Does anybody know a site were I can find photos of the location and shots from the film? Or can anyone supply me with a map on which these exact locations are indicated? Greetings, Switch --multiplaza.nl.nu-- |

Canadians, Kiwis, Aussies and their flags
I have never had to empty my backpack crossing a border (except into the UK, but they're special) when displaying my American passport - Canadians I have been traveling with had to empty their backpacks and were questioned privately on several occasions. It even extends beyond Europeans -once when I hooked up with some Kiwis in Ireland and was invited back to their London flat for a few days, one of their flat mates was particularly cold towards me. He wouldn't even look at, or speak to me as we piled in the VW to head to a pub the first night I was there. 10 minutes after we arrived at the pub one of the other folks asks me something about Canada and this distant guy gets a quizzical look on his face, comes over, has me confirm I am Canadian and then apologizes for his behaviour because he thought I was a Yank. After that we drank and snag for days - ah Europe and youth!. Sounds to me like the guy was an idiot. If someone was treating Canadians that way I wouldn't drink with him. I'll chip in here. Recently I met some travellers who had big New Zealand flags on their bikes. It turned out they were US citizens travelling around the world and had picked the NZ flag as they got way less hassle if people thought they were Kiwis. Regards Nigel in NZ --multiplaza.nl.nu-- |

There is a small lagoon adjacent to the RSL Club that is regularly used by scuba classes on the Tweed River at Twed Heads about 1 hour south of Brisbane. It is an ideal site as it should have clear water on the incoming tide and isn't more than about 5-6 metres deep. Its about 500 metres from the river entrance so there is almost no waves. Just outside the lagoon in the river itself there is a rockwall that drops down to about 7-9 metres so if you feel up to it you can actaully have a real snorkel. It isn't the most exciting place but it is safe and convenient as there are picnic facilities on site. -- bluesky ------------------------------------------------------------------------ bluesky's Profile: http://travelforums.org/forums/member.php?userid=333 View this thread: http://travelforums.org/forums/showthread.php?t=10671 This post was submitted via http://www.TravelForums.org |
