Considering travelling from NYC on the 9 night maiden voyage on the Crown
Princess June 14 -23. Anyone have any experiences with maiden voyages?
Hiccups are to be expected, but are there any major potential problems
anyone has experienced that one may not have considered?.

The most major problem I can think of, is the ship not being ready and
the sailing being canceled. Since the Crown Princess is supposed to be
sailing from the new Red Hook pier in Brooklyn, I am concerned about
the pier and parking being ready in time.

I am sailing the Crown Princess the end of august, so by then I don't
expect any problems. If you do the maiden voyage, please post a review
and let us know how you like the ship etc.

We were scheduled to be on the maiden voyage of Celebrity Millenium
back in June 2000 (Baltic Sea cruise out of Amsterdam). We learned 1
week before departure that our cruise would be cancelled due to
construction delays. Celebrity refunded all of our money PLUS provided
us with a free cruise for two, to be used anytime within the following
18 months. We used that credit for our first cruise to Alaska on the
Infinity the next summer.

Oh, by the way, we still went to Europe, had non-refundable plane
tickets, and had the best time of our lives exploring Holland and
France for 17 days. In fact, we have been back to Holland every summer
since because we fell in love with the country during that visit.

Just watched a show on the preparation and maiden lanuch of the Queen Mary on
the Discovery Channel today (don't know when it repeats) but it showed them
working Queen Mary 2 right up to the same day that the queen blessed and
press the big button for the traditional bottle.
