Default Viking Cruisers Return

Actually Jean, We were docked in San Juan on the same night. We were
docked next to one another. So in a way we kinda sailed together this
last trip. Our route from Ft. Lauderdale was San Juan, St. Thomas,
Antigua, Tortola, Naussa. I liked the 8 day route.

Hi Jean, The Captain kept about 200 miles away from Olga. When we
docked in San Juan (first port) I would say only about 75-100 people
showed up for dinner in the Silver Olympian. A lot of people got sick.
We had such a good time with the waiters and busboy that night. I loved
the Liberty and everything about it. I loved our cabins being right on
Lido deck. I would sail her again anytime. I will not be doing the
GGC. To be honest I really wasn't in the mood to do the Liberty. My
father passed away just a little more than 1 week before sailing. I
was thinking about not going on the cruise at all but everyone in my
family told me I should. It did help to get away but I honestly wasn't
in my normal cruise frame of mind. I kept it very low key and quiet.
Which I now know it is very possible to have a quiet, relaxing, peaceful
time on a Carnival Fun Ship if you so desire. Its not all singing and
dancing "In the morning, in the evening, ain't we got fun". Lots of
quiet places if you desire.

Rick, I am so sorry to hear about your father's death, so very sad and even
worse being you had a cruise planned and it being so close to Christmas. I
think you did the right thing going on the cruise...sometimes it helps to
get away and your Dad probably would have wanted you to continue on with
your life...Everyone has to work through their grief in their own way and I
hope yours diminishes as time passes..Been there many years ago and I still
miss my Dad very much. My prayers are with you and your family.
On a happier note, I'm glad that you proved that you can have a quiet and
relaxing time on Carnival if one wishes to and it is not all the rowdy line
many think it is....I just wish they would get rid of the singing waiter
routine...but that's me.
Take care, my friend,

--Jean

By Golly, you are right! I remember seeing the two Carnival ships docked
next to us! Did you go into town? I'm surprised that we did not run into
each other in Old San Juan! The eight and ten days are nice but it is hard
to get a group with that many because so many are working and not able to
take off that many days....Seven days are getting too short! ;-)

Rick, I'm so sorry to hear about your dad, and can empathize with your
feelings on the ship. We went on a cruise shortly after one of my
sisters passed, and what I did was go to the meals and some of the
shows, and did a lot of sleeping in between (always hoping that when I
awakened, I would find that it wasn't so. I think that's called
depression).

Rick, I am very sorry to hear about your father!!

From first hand experience I know that your going on your cruise was
the right thing to do. When my mother died we were booked on a cruise
that was 2 weeks afterwards and I just didn't want to go. The cruise
itself was very refreshing and I came home able to start dealing with
her estate etc.

RICK:
Sorry about your dad, know the feeling,we cruised about 3 months after
our son passed away, and we found it helped to get away,if only for a
week. Still it will take a lot of time, and i know you will find the
strength to go on.

If you followed us along the same track from Florida to Puerto Rico, I'm
surprised that you had problems with rough seas, because we didn't. Unless
we were that much larger where the size made a big difference. But I recall
Destiny as being very stable in the North Atlantic waters, and since Liberty
is a variation on Destiny, I would have expected it to be very stable as
well.

Also, sorry to hear about your dad. My condolences.

Believing in a higher power, it is easy to see that your sister is
looking down upon you and she is with you always. I only miss the
physical presence of my parents. They are with me always in thought, as
is your sister.

Thanks to Everyone for your thoughts and wishes. It did help to get
away for 10 days.

It was during the second day the captain made an announcement (noon time
report - here is where he told us we were in 20 foot seas) that he was
putting out the stabilizers. We were like "WHAT?" Why hadn't they been
out the entire time? No wonder we were bouncing like a cork in the
ocean. I can only assume that the stabilizers use more fuel and thats
why they weren't out sooner?

Liberty of the Seas is a much larger ship than the Carnival Liberty
(Conquest Class). I also bet that Liberty of the Seas had her
stabilizers out since sailing out of Florida where the Carnival Liberty
didn't.
