Default Maritime Provinces- Canada

Hi-

I'm fascinated by the idea of visiting the Maritime Provinces even
though I guess I don't know much about them. I've read lots but comments
from people who live or have visited would help a lot.

Soem of the things we enjoy are good music (Cajun, Acadian,
Scottish/Celtic/Irish, etc), seafood, small villages and towns, rustic
scenery, fishing villages, country inns, local crafts, etc. I'd also be
interested in anything special about Halifax or the other cities. And
especially, interesting ferries, etc. And of course, anything else of
interest I might not even know enough to ask about.

We're thinking about late May or early June. Any interesting festivals,
etc? And what's the weather likely to be at that time?

Any info greatly appreciated.

Thanks-

Susan

Where are you coming from ? Will you have a car ?

May should be a good time. The Halifax waterfront is awesome (let me say
I'm from Halifax so may be a tad biased . There are some touristy
attractions such as the Citadel in the heart of the city. Plenty of 'old'
buildings (unless you're from Europe then they nice new buildings). There's
the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic, there's a Titanic museum, Titanic
cemetary. There are plenty of villages and towns within a 100 miles of
Halifax. There's Grand Pre which is an Acadian village historic site. Cape
Breton (especially the Cabot Trail) is a very nice drive with both Acadian
and Celtic sites.

Go here. http://www.novascotia.com/

Last fall we spent 3 weeks camping in Nova Scotia. Most of our time was
spent in and around Lunenburg. Next time we'll go to Cape Breton.

Your timing may be a bit early. I'm going in mid/late June and some
things are just opening. FFM

Call 1-800-565-0000 and request Nova Scotias very informative tourist
info. Also a pleasant surprise in Halifax are the public gardens, very
nice to spend the afternoon. Also, of course is the must see Peggy's
Cove.

It's beautiful country out there and full of nice people. Make sure that you
get up to Cape Breton, and I highly recommend spending a day at the old
French Fortress at Louisburg.

Cape Breton has what you'll be looking for. Pay a visit to Mabou on the
Gulf of St. Lawrence. Drive out on the gravel road from Mabou towards
Port Hood on a Saturday night, and stop by the "sports club." There's
live celtic music and dancing there. I got to see Natalie McMaster play
there in 1994 for $1 admission!
