Default Q; ayers rock?

considering a short visit to the red centre (march 2005).

We have three days left. Is this enough to spend at the hart of australia or
should we need more days?

Best thing to travel around: by 4 wdrive, or will a normal car do?

weather, climate that time of the Year?

places to stay?

thx for the help!

Max

If you have only three days, then a 2WD is sufficient. I.e. if you
have time 'left', you can visit the Olga's 'near' Ayers Rock or/and
Kings Canyon (not quite so near). For KC, a 4WD could save you a few
hours if the Ernest Giles (sp?) road is open, but it is probably not
worth the extra cost for so little 'extra' time (especially because then
you will probably want to see the meteorite craters and 'loose' the
gained time).

Come back next time, spent a few *weeks* instead of days, and *then*
get a 4WD.

Unless you are an experienced off road driver rent a
2wd and stick to metalled roads. The outback is no
place to learn the skill of off road driving

Hi,

there should not be a problem for a non-4WD-experienced-driver to do KC
- Alice via Mereenieloop if it is dry.

Horst

And there have been no washouts and you dont get bogged
and you dont blow 2 tyres, rental 4wd's typically only have one spare.

*If* they use their brain. The problem is that many non-4WD-experienced-
drivers do not use their brain, probably because they are lacking that
particular piece of equipment. I have seen too many Blitz campervans/
cars at way too high speeds.

Also people doing the Mereenie loop are likely to visit Palm Valley,
which, IMO, is *not* for inexperienced drivers, especially the last four
or so kilometers (said the somewhat 'experienced' 4WD driver who stopped
before that bit).
