Default Flights and bikes

Hi all,

possibly the most requently-asked question of them all ! I'm looking
to fly in to Auckland in mid Jan 04, staying for 4 weeks being a
tourist. I've done the trudge around the usul websites - expedia,
opodo, travelbag etc, and have so far come up with a price of £700
ish. Does anyone know of anything better?

Secondly, I was vaguely thinking of hiring a motorbike to get around
the country - what do I need to look out for - eg easy to hire, how
much etc (i'm 22 so insurance may be a problem)

Thanks in advance

Try a couple of decent travel agents

I suggest STA, who specialise in youth and student fares
and Trailfinders.

This company hires bikes to those over 21
but they wont rent you anything bigger than 600cc
if your under 25

Anyhoo, you don't need a bike bigger than 600cc as the roads are windy
(yeah!) and the police are very active. If you are tall enough, an XT600
Yamaha is perfect. There are several firms who hire these. Good on road
manners, and you can explore the gravel roads and tracks. Me and the
Pillion-in-a-Million put in about 15,000km a year two-up and mostly on a
F650 BMW which is quite similar to the Yamaha. A bike is the BEST way to see
NZ.

Regards

Nigel in NZ
