Request for shore excursion suggestions - Panama Canal Cruise
Hi,
My wife and I and another couple have made reservations for a cruise in late November from San Diego to Fort Lauderdale through the Panama Canal. The itinerary is: Day Date Port or Activity Arrive Depart Fri Nov 23 San Diego, CA 5:00pm Sat Nov 24 At Sea Sun Nov 25 Cabo San Lucas, Mexico 10:30am 6:00pm Mon Nov 26 At Sea Tue Nov 27 Acapulco, Mexico 8:00am 6:00pm Wed Nov 28 Huatulco, Mexico 8:00am 5:00pm Thu Nov 29 At Sea Fri Nov 30 Costa Rica (Any Port) 7:00am 7:00pm Sat Dec 1 At Sea Sun Dec 2 Panama Canal (Full Transit) 6:00am 4:00pm Sun Dec 2 Cristobal, Panama 6:00pm 8:00pm Mon Dec 3 At Sea Tue Dec 4 Cartagena, Colombia 8:00am 5:00pm Wed Dec 5 At Sea Thu Dec 6 At Sea Fri Dec 7 Fort Lauderdale, FL 7:00am We would appreciate any suggestions as to good shore excursions at the various ports of call. We are all in our mid-60s and in reasonable health. On previous cruises we have enjoyed excursions that have involved visits to Mayan ruins, having lunch with natives, bird watching, visiting caves, natural wonders, etc. Gerry |

We enjoyed the tour of the Embera Indian village in Panama. It involves a bus trip and dugout canoe (motorized) ride up a river to an "authentic" Embera Indian village. In Costa Rica we did the combined canal boat excursion and the rain forest aerial tram ride. Some folks find the aerial tram to be on the boring side, since the animals are nocturnal or scared by the aerial cars. There is a bit more wildlife that can be seen on the river portion of the excursion. Pete |

Uncle Peter, I couldn't agree more!! Our trip to the embera Indian Village this past Jan. ranked up there as one of the best, if not the best excursion we have done. They don't use the dugout canoe anymore, that might of been fun. I would pick an excursion that "only" goes to the village, there will be very few people on the excursion. Also make sure to find out from the shore excursion people, a *safe cafe* to spend time in when you get to Cristobal. You are very likely to be there before your ship.
