Default Russian waterways cruises?

We're trying to decide between Grand Circle Travel's Russian Waterways
trip, which includes hotel stays in Moscow and St. Petersburg with a
river cruise between the two cities, and Viking River Cruises'
Waterways of the Czars, which has a similar itinerary, but you stay on
the boat the whole time. We have seen reviews that said that it takes
hours to get from the ship to the centers of Moscow and St. Petersburg
because of the traffic; does anyone know anything about that? We'd
also like to know what the rooms on the Viking ships are like.

Thanks for any info on either of these trips that anyone can give us.

We took the Viking cruise. No it did not take hours to get to the
center of the cities. You can easily take subway in either city to
get to the city center from the docks. The rooms were very small,
with two very narrow beds and a closet for a toilet. But it's OK for
us because we tried to spend a lot of times on shore. They tried very
hard to entertain us on board, but it's still a small river cruise,
not one of those big ocean cruise.

Hello Leo,
I am familiar with river cruises between Moscow and Saint-Petersburg. In
Saint-Petersburg ships stay not so far from the center, also it depends on
which side of Neva river they land. You might be lucky and your ship would
stay right at metro station. If not - you will need to take a bus for coming
to the nearest metro station. I know people stay at the ship and they don't
complain. I am local tour guide, if you have any more questions - feel free
asking questions. Elena, Saint-Petersburg www.guided-tour.spb.ru
