It actually is not in the walled old town of Monterchi, but just below.
Good thing, actually, as driving through Monterchi requires some grease on
the sides of a lot of cars.

It is up the hill and a long way from the cemetery where it was originally
painted so it is splitting hairs as to whether or not it is actually in the
old town For the sake of precision, it is at via della Reglia No 1 and will
cost you ?3,10 to get in but it's good to see that "I must have the last
word" Judith is still in form!

I can heartily recommend three good places to eat not too far away, near
Anghiari..

Antico Posto di Ristoro at Passo della Libbia on the road from Arezzo to
Anghiari at Scheggia.

Vecchia Osteria la Pergola at Tavernelle di Anghiari.

Locanda di Sorci on the road from Arezzo to San Sepolcro, past the turn off
for Monterchi it is an experience. They do set meals, different each day but
the same menu for each day of the week. it is all traditional Tuscan cooking
with the food grown on the estate. You don't need to know Italian, you just
sit and eat what is put down in front of you. They have a web site at
http://www.castellodisorci.it/.

I had a very nice lunch for ?37 which is considerably less than you would
pay in a City, particularly a tourist one.

Ian, if you do not want to hear what someone who lives 20 minutes from la
Modonna has to say, then please killfile me. Gratuitous insults won't do.
You do not see me carrying on for a week in OT discussions, do you? It just
happens that I live here and for that reason have a little specialty
knowledge.
