I've done it occasionally and never been refused. The equivalent might be provided packaged in a suppository. |

Then, there is the option to get pain medication from Holland (probably, you won't cross the border on a Saturday afternoon from Hamburg, but from Essen you might consider that). Many medications that require prescription in Germany are freely available in the Netherlands, and generally for one-third of the price. [For instance: the chemist at the Nordhorn/Denekamp border sells 40 pills Paracetamol 500mg for less than 1 euro] A search for online suppliers might surprise you (OP Lava) as well. -- Erick |

What you actually get buying on-line medication might surprise even more. The general advice is don't. |

Have you actually tried a serious supplier, Martin? Of course, I was not referring to the V.. and C..-sellers from Nigeria, but rather to shops like https://www.europa-apotheek.com/ http://www.holland-apo.de/ or from this list: http://www.apotheken-vergleich.com/A...ederlande.html -- Erick |

I don't. The advice I gave came from the Consumentenbond and the BBC. https://www.europa-apotheek.com/ http://www.holland-apo.de/ or from this list: http://www.apotheken-vergleich.com/A...ederlande.html We get our medication from our local apotheek. Our insurance pays 90-100% of the cost. I think they wouldn't pay anything if we bought mail order without a prescription. |

I don't. The advice I gave came from the Consumentenbond and the BBC. Well, that's one difference between the dutch Consumentenbond and the german organization: the latter appears to perform serious research on such matters, whereas the Consumentenbond IMHO just makes fuzzy claims. But you're right: a foreigner may be reluctant to order from an online source in such cases. or from this list: http://www.apotheken-vergleich.com/A...de/content/vie w/471/2/Apotheken-Niederlande.html ....but this list includes Europe's largest online supplier. _If_ getting medication in Germany gets difficult due to not having the prescription and a health card, this online shop might be worth a try, I think. We get our medication from our local apotheek. Our insurance pays 90-100% of the cost. I think they wouldn't pay anything if we bought mail order without a prescription. Oh, but the OP wasn't objecting to paying for the medication, was (s)he? |

Well, that's one difference between the dutch Consumentenbond and the german organization: the latter appears to perform serious research on such matters, whereas the Consumentenbond IMHO just makes fuzzy claims. In the case of the BBC, they gave a lot of examples and had the contents of mail order medication analysed. The main effort of scammers goes into copying the packaging and form & colour of pills etc. The Consumentenbond shares results with other European consumer associations. None of them are perfect. There are areas of consumer products that are better dealt with by specialists. But you're right: a foreigner may be reluctant to order from an online source in such cases. or from this list: http://www.apotheken-vergleich.com/A...de/content/vie w/471/2/Apotheken-Niederlande.html ...but this list includes Europe's largest online supplier. _If_ getting medication in Germany gets difficult due to not having the prescription and a health card, this online shop might be worth a try, I think.
