My plane is scheduled to depart at 6am. What time should I be at the
airport? 5am? Thanks in advance Which country are you in? Which airline? Domestic or International? As an example, for a European flight from LHR, I always turn up 2 hours before departure, but in 90% of cases, 40 minutes would have been OK. If in doubt, give yourself at least an hour more than you need. |

Thanks in advance Entirely depends on the the airport, the airline, the country you are in etc etc. As ever, for definitive advice, phone the airline and they will give you a recommended time. Most airlines recommend 2 hours for short to medium haul. 3 hours for long haul. Your milage may vary. |

quick question (from a newbie)
My plane is scheduled to depart at 6am. What time should I be at the
airport? 5am? I had a sobering experience at MCO on Monday. I was there Sunday evening and it took just minutes to go to the the departure are, check-in online, get to the concourse, and get bumped for the next morning flight. (Even the BUMP was fast--I was the first person in line at the gate, and they gave me my vouchers on the spot--an hour before the flight was to leave!). But the next morning (6:50am) in Terminal B at MCO the queue for security wound through all six or seven ribbons of switchback waiting lane, completely OUT the main hall of terminal B, down a long, long transversing corridor past the food court, and all the way to Terminal A--and the doubled BACK along the other side of the moving walkways halfway back to Terminal B! It was like nothing anybody had ever seen--it was about the length of two football fields. People who were arriving to try to get to security for Terminal A were getting in this line--because it LOOKED like it was going to Terminal A security, but it actually doubled completely back around all the way to the other Terminal! It moved pretty fast though. I was probably only in it 50 minutes. And every now and then they would ask for people who had flights coming up soon. And I offered to hold the place in line for somebody whose flight was leaving shortly, so that she could go right up to the front and beg to get let through--and it must have worked. But I personally wouldn't allow less than 90 minutes unless it is a small airport, or one that you know well--particularly if you are checking luggage. Though chances are for a 6am flight things won't be too hairy yet! |

You can be there just a few minutes before the flight and still make it. That is as long you are not booked on gamblers flight to Laughlin. M. Graham |
