Mikko,

IcelandicAir has terrific fares right now to Helsinki for around
$400 USD. Go to http://www.icelandair.com/ and click on "Hot Deals"
and then New York. Starting in June, this fare will be raised to
$614. One option to consider would be to fly into Arlanda (Stckholm)
and take the Silja or Viking line to Turku or Helsinki. I've save
over $200 in some cases by doing this.

The best site I've found is Smarter Living. This company searches
all the airlines web sites for their last-minute deals and
consolidates them into one web page. Go to this page and enter in your
information. You can pick your airports and every Wednesday, last
minute fares are posted to your inbox.
http://www.smarterliving.com/sub/joi...newsletter_nav. In the
winter, you can fly to Stockholm for about $250 USD and take the $20
boat ride to Turku.

If you are not going to Turku you need to add EUR 22.40 for the
train to Helsinki (as well as a few kroner for the bus ride from
the Central Station to the ferry terminal in Stockholm and the
cost of getting from Arlanda to the Central Station). And you'll
miss a lot of fun if you don't take the night ferry from
Stockholm to Helsinki.
