Default Delta Queen Cancels American Queen!

Hi Everyone,

I was notified that the Delta Queen Steamboat Company has cancelled
all 2006 sailings of the American Queen. They cancelled the sailings
due to a "business decision". IOW, they were not filling the ships at
the per diems that they wanted. :+( If you are booked on the American
Queen, contact your travel agent asap so you can reschedule on the
Delta Queen or the Mississippi Queen. They will continue to sail
these ships in 2006. If you have missed any of my news' postings,
they are available on my web site.

Best regards,
Ray

Delta Queen Steamboat Company Makes Decision to Remove American Queen
from Service for 2006

Jan.6.06
Delta Queen Steamboat Co.

Delta Queen Steamboat Company made this decision as a result of the
devastating effect that Hurricane Katrina had on tourism in the Gulf
Coast Area. There is limited demand in 2006 to operate three
steamboats on upriver itineraries.

In calendar year 2007, Delta Queen Steamboat Company will return to
operating as a three steamboat company, with the Grand American Queen,
the Magnificent Mississippi Queen, and the Legendary Delta Queen.

Passengers currently booked on 2006 American Queen departures will be
offered the following:

Passengers who rebook on a 2006 Mississippi Queen or Delta Queen
departure by February 6, 2006 will receive a $100 per person onboard
credit.

Agent commission will be protected for fully paid bookings on affected
departures.

Delta Queen Steamboat Company will protect the 2005 rate card, but
when a passenger rebooks they will be rebooked at the prevailing
discount on the new departure at the time of rebooking.

Should affected passengers decide not to rebook, Delta Queen Steamboat
Company will offer a full refund. Regularly applied administration
fees will not be collected.

The 2007 cruise schedule will be available in March 2006

Thank you for your support and understanding.

I'm glad that I cruised on the American Queen and stayed in New
Orleans before Katrina.

The Delta Queen Steamboat Company Announces Changes to Schedules

BUFFALO, N.Y., Jan. 10
The mighty waters of the Mississippi River system will continue to
welcome two of the authentic paddlewheel steamboats of the Delta Queen
Steamboat Company in Spring 2006, but the company announced today that
its American Queen schedule will be postponed until 2007, due to
conditions in New Orleans and along the lower Mississippi River
system, the steamboat's home base. Over the last few months, the
American Queen has been in private charter.

Passengers will be given the opportunity to travel on one of the other
steamboats in the company's fleet including the historic Delta Queen
or the Mississippi Queen.

Bruce Nierenberg, president of the Delta Queen Steamboat Company,
expressed his gratitude to the Delta Queen's loyal passengers and its
crew as the company has developed its operating plan for the
steamboats post Katrina.

"In October, we were certainly very excited to announce that in 2006,
with very minimal schedule changes, the boats of the Delta Queen will
be continuing their legacy of traveling the heartland rivers. Since
then, we have come to more fully realize the extent of the issues of
re-entering our primary market of New Orleans and the other ports
along the lower Mississippi, the main base of operations for the
American Queen vessel. We are optimistic that we will be able to place
the American Queen back in service in 2007."

The company cites that it has experienced strong positive momentum in
bookings in the last few months and hopes this trend continues, but it
is apparent that the upriver itineraries would have a difficult time
supporting a three boat operation for the whole 2006 operating year.

"While we are disappointed about the postponement of American Queen,
we are confident in the fact that travelers still love to experience
America via steamboat. And while our operations are slowly coming
back, we are fortunate to have the backing of Delaware North Companies
and its vast network of resources, plus the dedication of some of the
most loyal customers, employees and crew," said Nierenberg.

LOL is this the same guy who assured us only 4 months ago that there
would be no changes? Who, as head of Premier Cruises, denied rumors of
financial trouble... then closed the doors 3 days later?

I can't comment on his management skills, but bad luck sure does seem to
follow him. Don't know if I'd take his optimism seriously.
