African Train System

Hi,

Does anyone know if there's a train company that operates similar to
Amtrak in the United States in any countries in Africa or in Africa as
a whole?

Passenger rail lines are reasonably common in Africa. Tanzania has two.
The Central line runs from Dar Es Salaam to Kigoma. The Tazara line
runs from Dar Es Salaam to New Kapri Mposhi in Zambia. Zambia has some
internal lines, that as I recall, do not connect with Tazara. Zimbabwe
has or had some very slow passenger rail lines. South Africa has been
mentioned. While perhaps not the Africa you had in mind, Egypt has an
extensive inter-city passenger rail system.

Quality varies widely. The Central Line was a bit rough when I rode it
in 2002. Tazara was better but suffered from the usual "only in Africa"
delays. Egyptian trains were quite nice.
