Default Does anybody 'moderate' this group?

I found this group hoping to find discussion items/posts about the
title "rec.travel.usa-canada" but somehow most of the stuff being put
on this site is 'adult content' which IMO should not be posted here.
So my question is- Does anybody 'moderate' this group for content of
the postings before they are published?

Short answer - no.

What you can do is to complain to the powers-that-be:
1. in the internet headers (in IE, click File/Properties/Detail) of the
offending post you will find the email address to which to send your
complaint.
2. copy all the internet headers
3. forward a copy of the offending post, including that copy of all the
internet headers, to the indicated email address for complaints

The posts you see that start with "csmg cancel" I believe are the result of
such complaints. Be advised that these spammers are like crabgrass - they
keep popping out and need to be addressed all the time. But if we all keep
at this, at the very least they need to keep creating new email addresses.
At the very most, we no longer hear from them.

That's because you're a googlegrouper.

So my question is- Does anybody 'moderate' this group for content of
the postings before they are published?

No, it's not moderated.

Abandon googlegroups.

Subscribe to a real news service.

Use a real newsreader with filtering.

NO

And what the others said - get a real newsreader that has
killfiles.

Thanks. This provides a marvellous example for the OP.

I use Forte Agent.

All I need to do is right-click on the post from Sharx35.
From the menu that appears I left-click on Filters - New
Kill Filter. Then I check "delete" and uncheck "Expire this
filter after 30 days" (which I appear to have neglected to
do last time).

Then I click on OK. Voila - Sharx35 and all his/her posts
disappear into my killfile, to join various spammers, kooks
and others with malodourus opinions.

After a reasonably short period applying that you will find
many newsgroups become much more pleasant places to read and
post in:-)
