Wild camping in NZ S Island

I like the DOC campsite at Lake Mapourika (near Franz Josef) - right on the
lake shore, cold water & long drop on site for $5.

Another good spot is the shore of Lake Lyndon on Highway 73 heading towards
Arthurs Pass from Chch

Down near Mt Cook if you turn of Highway 8 to the north of Lake Pukaki
(signposted to the Mt Cook Salmon Farm) there are some good spots under the
pine trees.

If you free camp be sure to take all your rubbish with you and be careful
with your waste water - ie do not wash yourself or your dishes in or near
the lakes/rivers & do not crap or leave toilet paper in the bushes.

to nature" camping, but many still allow cars to be parked alongside
site...
