Default shore excursions - how to set up before a Princess cruise?

I usually travel on my own if I've been there before. But if I have
not, or for out of the ordinary tours into the hinterlands that might
be difficult to book on my own, I do the ship tours. For instance I
did the ship tour in Callao to the islands in a small boat from the
ship tour, but yesterday in Nassau, I just took a taxi and told him
where I wanted to go.

Same here. While I usually do my own, sometimes I do book a cruise line
excursion. Sometimes they are the only or best option. For example the
Tracy Arm excursion in Alaska was only possible from the ship, do to
the Veendam itineraries time in Juneau and that excursion was great,
very happy I booked it even though it was about $50 more than if I had
been able to book it independent. The White Pass Railway was only a few
dollars more and getting it from the cruise line meant boarding at the
dock and not worrying that the time we wanted to go would be sold out
at the ticket office in town.

What is great about the internet is that I can research the options and
read reports from those who have done the excursions, both cruise line
and from independent vendors or just take a taxi like you did in
Nassau. Besides using taxis to get from one point to another, like from
the dock to a beach, some of my best tours were from finding the right
taxi driver at the dock to take us around. Of course when you have
already been to a place once or twice that is a lot easier to do.

We also had to do some rehashing of our finances due to our beloved
governor and his cutbacks.

All the states are hurting financially due to the economic downturn.

While I am looking forward to retiring I know that being on a fixed
income will mean making adjustments.

Have been on a fixed income for almost 23 years, and it is getting harder
and harder to come to grips with it. It is the school tax that kills
us,2 years ago they redid all our schools over, and then 1 year later
they closed them all down and built all new ones, The old ones are just
sitting there empty. What a waste of our tax money. No wonder all our
politicians in our town can cruise 3 & 4 times a year.
