Default Need a Pre cruise and Post cruise Hotel Reccomendation in Miami

In Late October Our family and two kids (Boys age 9 & 12) will be flying
into Miami for a cruise leaving the next day. What we need is a
recommendation of where to stay that offers a outdoor pool, shuttle
transportation to and from the airport and shuttle transportation to and
from the cruise ship terminal in Miami.

Can this be had for $100 a night in Miami? Ideally, this hotel would be
situated between the airport and cruise ship terminal but on or near the
beach area would be ok too. Any recommendations on where to stay??

Maybe on Priceline you could score a place that you'd want to stay in,
for $100. Other than that, I don't know of a place in Miami that I'd
want to stay, where the rack rate was in the $100 range. Miami has some
rather unsavory areas, so really take location into consideration when
booking a room, rather than basing your decision mostly on price. Love
the place, used to live there.

Well, Miami has waterfront...on the intercoastal waterway, but for
beach, you'd have to go over to the city of Miami Beach. And, I doubt
you'd be able to find a place for $100 a night there.

Sorry I haven't been more help. Personally, I'd go the Priceline route.
You'll get a lot more hotel for your hundred bucks. You may or may not
score all of your other preferences (shuttle, pool, etc.) but if you
select the right region when you bid, a taxi shouldn't cost too much.
Many of these hotels do offer shuttles, but it's sometimes just more
practical to take a cab...especially with 4 of you. I get impatient
waiting for those hotel shuttles. Just not worth it to me, sometimes,
to save a few bucks. Life is too short to wait in line...

Is there a certain section of town we should avoid? --Greg--

One area people tend to overlook is the Coconut Grove area. Cool harbor and
marinas, great neighborhood restaurants, other entertainment and a pleasant
area to stay in. Last time in Miami we stayed at the Mutiny
(http://www.mutinyhotel.com) ...don't let the name fool you...for $150/nt
had a great 1 br apartment (with sofa bed in living room). There are other
hotels in the area too that may be less $$$.

The Mutiny''s still around? When my folks came down to visit me, when I
was living in Miami, I booked them a room there. Quite a place. Are the
rooms still all themed differently? The one my parents were given had a
definite bordello theme. It was pretty hilarious. But, even back then
(about 20 years ago), the hotel was a good deal. I love the Grove, but
not THAT convenient to the airport or cruise port, really. I'm trying
to visualize the geography in my head...

Also, maybe it's changed, but there were some areas in Coconut Grove
that were pretty nasty - the center of it was okay, but the northern
parts...drive-through crack dealers. Literally. You could stop your
car, and dealers would come right up to your window, whether you were
interested or not.

To the OP, there's an area called Bayside that's supposed to be nice.
It didn't exist when I lived down there, so I really can't offer any
input as far as hotels there. But, it's a good, convenient location for
a pre-cruise stay if there's a hotel in the complex. It'll probably be
more than $100 a night, though. many here have stayed at hotels right
downtown. I guess, if you're coming in on the afternoon before your
cruise, and really only need a place to sleep, that would work fine.
Otherwise, I really don't see the appeal of a downtown location.

If it were me, I'd consider the pre-cruise hotel stay as more of a part
of the vacation...spend a little more for a nice hotel room in a good
spot (Miami Beach, Key Biscayne)). I mean, you're spending big bucks to
take your family of 4 on a cruise! Start the trip out right.

I just went to Priceline to see what they have for Miami. They've
changed their format since last I booked a room through them. Now, you
can name your price OR you can pick your hotel (they show the prices).
Have you looked at the site? Lots of options in your price range. I
know I've seen the Hilton Airport mentioned here from time to time.
That's a reasonable $129. Looks like they offer a shuttle, too.
