Buying Campers in Cairns

Hello all and thanks for taking the time to read this. My wife and myself
will be in Cairns from the end of Oft till about the 2nd of November. We are
then travelling down to Sydney. We have looked at various options for this,
except for one. That is buying a camper. I know that in Sydney there is a
market dealing in these, with travellers selling them before flying home. Is
there a similar one in Cairns. If so where, when and what sort of price
could I expect to pay for a half decent one.

You could try http://www.travellersautobarn.com.au/ which does have an
office in Cairns as well as Sydney and other places. Their website
says they will do a guaranteed buy-back deal of 50% if you want
(contingent, of course, on returning the van in good condition). The
price of a camper would depend a lot on what you want (how big, what
features). The website above suggests that anything costing less than
$15,000 is likely to be too old and unreliable to consider, and I
would agree with that assessment.

BTW, I have no connection, financial or otherwise, with Travellers
Auto Barn. Probably there is somewhere in Cairns where you can buy
directly from other people, but I don't know where it is -- probably
near the backpackers' hostels near the centre of the city.. I'm a bit
surprised that no one from Cairns has responded to this question.
