Looking for Cheap Baltimore Airport-to-DC Transportation
Depending on day of the week, take the MARC from the BWI station (free
shuttle from terminal) to Union Station (or Greenbelt); take Metrorail from Union Station to Crystal City. You can also take MARC or Amtrak (on days when MARC isn't running) to New Carrollton and take Metrorail to Crystal City. Check the respective websites of MARC, Metrolink (WMATA) and Amtrak. At the curb outside the international terminal, catch the B30 Metrobus, which is an express service to Greenbelt Metro station. You'll need $2.50 in exact change (paper and/or coins). At Greenbelt, buy a ticket, go upstairs, and get on whichever train comes first - or if there are already 2 trains sitting there, get on the one with other people on it. It's the end of the line, so you can't go the wrong way; you just want to make sure you get the one that's the first to leave. Ride all the way to L'Enfant Plaza. Get out there, and wait on the same side of the same platform (do not cross the platform) for the Yellow line train, which ordinarily will be the next train to arrive there. That will take you to Crystal City. Note that the B30 doesn't run after about 10pm, so if you're arriving late in the evening, you'll have to instead take the phenomenally expensive Amtrak service from BWI rail station (reached via free shuttle bus), or (probably a better idea) just split a cab with some strangers. There's also a cheapish ($6) MARC train to Union Station from the BWI rail station (on weekdays only), but if you're going to Crystal City there's not much point, since it's less frequent than the B30 bus or the Metro trains. miguel -- Hit The Road! Correct, the metrobus/metrorail combination is probably the least expensive option. Note that the B30 doesn't run after about 10pm, so if you're arriving late in the evening, you'll have to instead take the phenomenally expensive Amtrak service from BWI rail station (reached via free shuttle bus), or (probably a better idea) just split a cab with some strangers. Off-peak fare on Amtrak Regional trains is $9 BWI-WUS (Washington Union Station). Fares are a bit higher on Friday and Sunday, but I'm not sure what they are becuase I've naver taken the trip then. Fares for the Metroliner/Acela Express _are_ "phenomenally expesive," but then, the cheap seats are "business class." There's also a cheapish ($6) MARC train to Union Station from the BWI rail station (on weekdays only), but if you're going to Crystal City there's not much point, since it's less frequent than the B30 bus or the Metro trains. miguel |
