No, absolutely not in most cases. Usually, a regular ticket
is in no way a guarantee of a seat.

The rules for bereavement fares vary wildy from airline to
airline. You really have to call around to get accurate
information. In many cases, you can get 1/2 of the regular
full fare. In most cases, you can get a cheaper flight from
the same airline without the bereavement policy.

Yes; I think the main reason someone might take
advantage of a bereavement discount is if they
have to quickly make flight arrangements due to a
death and they don't have the time or inclination
to look around for the best price. For example, if
a family member has just died and your highest
priority is just to get there as quickly as possible
to be with your family.

It's better than paying full fare, but you might be
able to find a cheaper price if you look around.
