Phil I don't know either of you but traffic can vary greatly. Telling someone there wouldn't be a problem isn't at all helpful. I said that, if the traffic is right, it could be done. That's all. Great late night cheap food was a ten minute walk away in Chinatown, and then you could continue walking to the Lower East Side and on to Union Square. When the new 2nd Avenue subway line is complete there will be an even closer subway station. You are advised not to book vacations in advance on the expectation there will be a 2nd Ave subway station nearby. -- Peter Schleifer "Save me from the people who would save me from myself" |

Yes, Slim. For Oct 26 to 31 (to avoid Halloween and NY Marathon), Affinia Manhattan 3 star at W54@Broadway is $180 per night. But our daughters stayed there this *July for a week, and they told us this hotel is not clean and quite filthy. Geez, you'd think for that money the room would be clean and nice. Of course, a Holiday Inn in Mt. Kisco is $150/night, so I guess $180 for Manhattan is quite cheap. sigh {IIRC, in Barefoot in the Park they were staying at the Plaza for $25/ night. I don't think inflation since that movie came out has been what the Plaza would charge today.) |

I just did a search for 2 weekends from now. Starts at $613 a night. -smo (the 2-bedroom suite is somewhat more) -- Steven O'Neill Brooklyn, NY http://www.panix.com/~steveo |

I guarantee you that (1) the West Side Highway is not the fastest way downtown at any time of day, and (2) not even the fastest route will get you from 34th street to Chambers St. in 5 minutes (unless you're including helicopters, of course). Midtown covers more ground than 59th Street. It goes as far down as the upper thirties IIRC. That's a mile from 59th Street. What time did you drive to and from work? Phil |

Since you are an AAA member and from San Francisco, check out page 13 in the Setp-Oct 2009 issue of VIA. "AAA members save up to $30" on Orchestra, Loge, and Mezzanine tickets to performances of "Wicked" at the Orpheum Theatre. Thank for response. But this Wicked is SF show. Not NYC Broadway show. One of our wish is to see "Wicked" in Broadway, the real thing, we suppose. However, you are right, if we missed it while we are in NYC, then, we probably go downtown SF, if BART do not keep calling strike. |
