That's absolute nonesense. I'm a local in Hawaii and I've never "liberated"
anyone else's belongings in my life, nor do I know of anyone who has. There
are thieves all over the world and your insulting attempt to portray ALL
Hawaiians as thieves is ludicrous and hysterical. Yes, there are thieves in
Hawaii and things do get stolen. Even though perhaps nothing has ever been
stolen in the county where you live, it could happen some day. Perhaps in the
future you can also take vacations to destinations where nothing has ever
been stolen, then you can save your duct tape to cover your keyboard and your
mouth. KM

bet they tell you that in the tourist books

It's not that bad, just came back from Honolulu and nobody tried to steal
anything (maybe I was lucky)

That being the case, most people are lucky, though not everyone is. KM

If that's the same company formerly known as "Pleasant Hawaiian
Holidays", I can endorse your recommendation. I've used them and they
made good on my one complaint.

What was that? The air conditioner on the bus to the Mormon village
broke. The driver stopped and waited for another bus to come along. I
screamed at him that "we can get air conditioning anywhere but we
cannot see or do what can be seen or done at our destination anywhere
else. Let's go!"

Well, the consequence of the late arrival was missing much and I was
furious. Got a refund on that portion of the trip. All else was as
advertised and an excellent value. I would not hesitate to use them
again.

I don't mean to take side on the crime issue, but it happens
everywhere. We have been to Venice,Paris,Rome etc. signs are posted
warning visitors to be ware. I live in Los Angeles and the papers are
full of "daily" drive by shootings, yet the city still promotes
tourism. Be aware.

i know first hand, i had about $4000 worth of stuff liberated from me
and ruined an otherwise beautiful two weeks. and it was a low
priority on the police's agenda.

Try a moneybelt instead. It's a fabric pouch with an elastic
strap that you wear under your clothes. I started wearing one
on my vacations after I heard European travel expert Rick
Steves recommend them, and they're great.

I keep my passport, plane tickets, and most of my cash in them.
In my wallet I only keep one credit card and whatever cash I need
for that one day.

My statement still stands that the remark that "locals consider tourists fair
game to be liberated of any and all of their belongings" is preposterous. And
the link you provided does not indicate that all locals feel this way or act
accordingly. Maybe you should give up hysteria. KM

Well stated. The crime in Hawaii, whether it be pilfering, petty theft or
grand theft is a walk in the park compared to Los Angeles, New York, the
Caribbean, Rome, Mexico, Rio de Janeiro, etc., etc., etc., KM
