The Bahamas Travel Warning
United States Department of State
Bureau of Consular Affairs
Washington, DC 20520

September 12, 2003

This Travel Warning is being issued to warn U.S. citizens to avoid travel to
the Bahamas at this time due to the threat posed by Hurricane Isabel, and to
reflect the State Department's decision to allow the voluntary departure of
nonemergency U.S. Government personnel and family members of U.S. Government
personnel.

The Department of State warns U.S. citizens to defer travel to the Bahamas.
Hurricane Isabel has been classified as a Category 5 Hurricane with
sustained winds of over 155 miles per hour. The U.S. State Department has
given permission for nonemergency U.S. personnel and family members of U.S.
personnel in the Bahamas to depart the Bahamas voluntarily.

U.S. citizens in the Bahamas should consider departing until the storm has
passed. If staying in the Bahamas, locate shelter, monitor media reports
and follow all official instructions. Visitors to the Bahamas should return
to their hotels or cruise ships for further information and instructions.

For further information about travel to the Bahamas and current conditions
there, please read the Bahamas Consular Information Sheet at
travel.state.gov or call the U.S. Embassy at: (242) 322-1181, after hours:
(242) 328-2206.
