What is the best way to get from Domodedovo airport to the city centre? Is public transport reliable/easy? What is a normal price for a taxi?
I will be in Moscow between 25-29 October, are there any special events in this period?

Express train, station is by the aerodrome...

Is public transport reliable/easy?

Metro is great, learn how to read the cyrillic alphabet so you can read the
station names...

What is a normal price for
a taxi?

Moscow taxis can be a "fishy" experience, best to have your hotel call a
reputable radio - dispatched taxi service...agree on price before - hand!

special events in this period?

Moscow Gay Pride Week...big parade...travestie shows; Human Rights Watch
group is also sponsoring a "Remember The Chechens!" festival right by the
Red Square...folks dancing, crafts, numerous food especialities...

For info on all of the above contact the local "Intourist" office...

Metro is also good transport about town. You may well need to count the
number of stops.....sometimes we found ourselves going 6 stops the wrong way
and going 12 back the other way. A couple of those and you soon learn to
remember the cyrillic characteristics of the desired stop. s

Last time I was in Moscow was '96. The rule then was that when you
arrived at the airport to ignore the taxi touts and go to one of the
booths - inside the terminal building - to book an official licensed
taxi. You got a booking slip with the taxi registration and license number.

Back in the '90s it was reported to be really dangerous to get in a non
registered taxi car. There were stories about people who vanished on
their way from the airport, the bodies sometimes showed up months later.
I hope things have improved since then.

On the other hand, inside cities traveling with local Russians, they
would sometimes just flag private cars down on the street and ask if
they would take us where we wanted for a few dollars.

After a while I figured out how to understand the loudspeaker
announcements telling you what the next stop is, but apart from that,
traveling the Moscow Metro does give you an insight into life as a
dyslexic.
