Default walking around Chamonix with a child

This month, I will be staying in Chamonix a few days
with my 8 year old daughter. She would love to make
some walks in the mountains, but is not very
experienced in mountain hikes.

I would be glad to receive suggestions for walks we could make.

The TI has a lot of material on local walks. We were only there for two days
and primarily for the cable car ride to Aiguille du Midi and Helbroner so didn't
actually do much walking except for a short jaunt east of town and back. I seem
to recall there was even one trip that involved a cable car ride up and hiking
back down -- way easier than the other way. I suspect there are a fair few
paths that an 8-year-old could handle.

You can get a good book on the various walks in the shops in Chamonix. (I
just looked for my copy, but think I may have lent it to a friend) There
are a number of what are called "Balcon" (or something like that) walks
which are fairly flat, and indeed there is one, as Frank suggests that goes
up in a cable-car, along, and then down. Also ISTR that we walked back from
the "Mer de glace" glacier.

There is a bit of info on http://www.chamonix.net/english/trek/trekking.htm

We were there 5 years ago when my wife was pregnant (though not heavily) and
we were able to do plenty of walks.

I loved Chamonix, and I'm sure you'll have a great time.
